The Jubilee Railway



The Jubilee Railway built in 1887  into the Jubilee Exhibition Building on Frome Road also built in 1887 was used to transport exhibits.

The line used an existing tunnel under King William Road. First built in 1854 and used to transport horses.

A loop siding was added in 1903 at the packing shed at Jubilee Oval.

During wartime troops were transported from the parade ground to ships at Port Adelaide.

The railway was also used to transport stone for the construction of the University of Adelaide.

In 1927 the line was closed and dismantled and the tunnel was filled in. The Jubilee Exhibition Building lasted untill 1962.
